Description:

McCook Athletic Field, University of Kansas, 1115 Illinois St. Langston Hughes attended football games at this athletic field, near the location of the present stadium at Eleventh St. and Mississippi St. It was within walking distance of his grandmothers house. Hughes wrote that he attended games on Saturdays and could hear the students yelling. The crowds roar is still audible throughout the campus area during football season. E.S. Tucker published this photograph in 1895.
